About the event

NORWEGIAN LITERATURE WORSKHOP IN BRNO: 10 – 19 JULY 2023 (10 days)

Keywords: Norwegian literature in history and present; the variety of genres in the Norwegian literature; cultural discourse topics in the changing society; challenges of translatology, reception and new technologies today.

Explanation and motivation:

a/ to mediate the nowadays Norwegian literature exploration in Norway and Europe

b/ to open the possibility to meet each other off-line, in natural settings in a Central European city at a department that reminds 50 years of Scandinavian Studies at MU.

c/ to follow directly the every day programme at the Literature Festival MAČ with 31 invited Norwegian Authors such as Hanne Ørstavik, Erika Fatland, Bjarte Breiteig, Kjartan Fløgstad, Nina Lykke, Tom Egeland, Åsne Seierstad, Are Kalvø og many others.

Lectures are hold by specialists from Department of German, Scandinavian and Netherlands Studies (Faculty of Arts), and primarly our visiting guest lecturers from The University in Tromsø, Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences, Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation, University in Gdansk, Babes-Bolyai University Cluj , Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Tischner European University, ELTE University of Budapest, University of Sofia, Charles University in Prague, Norwegian Embassy in Prague.

STUDENT PARTICIPANTS from Masaryk University in Brno (17 students), from Charles University in Prague (1 student), Budapest University (4) Sofia University (2), University of Gdansk (11), Babes-Bolyai University Cluj (5) = 39 participants

Language: Norwegian/English

Target audience are European students of Norwegian language and literature on bachelor, master and PhD. level, all students interested in Norwegian literature

Enrollment/entering/registration of the participants through the international department of Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University.

All participants will be registrated at Masaryk University as our students for the period and will be awarded 4 ECTS credits NOII_096 Projekt letní škola (Project Summer School) The foreign participants are expected to send their homeworks before (group video) and after (a short feedback report in Norwegian) after the end of the course.

DAILY PROGRAM STRUCTURE

10 – 13 lectures and seminars (only weekdays) in the facilities of Masaryk University

15 – 17 supplemental program focusing on Czech, German and Jewish history of our region, as well as on the cultural contacts with Norway and Scandinavia (city guiding, Villa Tugendhat, Castle Spilberk, Brno surroundings etc.)

Saturday: excursion Tišnov, Lomnice, Pernštejn (bus is free of charge) + entries

Sunday: excursion Macocha (bus 300 Kč) + entries

Every July evening incl. weekend: NORWEGIAN LITERATURE FESTIVAL Invited Norwegian Authors (19. 00 – 20.15) are interviewed/reading in Norwegian language (interpreted to Czech). OBS: the names and the succesional order of the authors will be known in May (free entrance)
