Welcome to our website

Norwegian has been taught as an independent degree programme at Masaryk University since 1975. The founder of this programme at MU was Professor Josef B. Michl (1918 - 2001), in the 1990s Miluše Juříčková took over responsibility for the programme. Originally, Norwegian was studied in a five-year double major. After 2000, the Bologna Education Process was restructured into a Bachelor's degree (Norwegian Language, Literature and Culture) and a Master's degree (Norwegian Studies). In recent years we have also had successful PhD students who are also involved in leading seminars.

In recent years we have seen an increase in the number of our graduates working in the fields of culture and international exchange. Our graduates work in the diplomatic service, many of them as translators and interpreters. Our study programme has the motto: To study Norwegian in Brno –it is a lifestyle! A step to the North –a step in the right direction!
